ARTWORK DESCRIPTION

Judith and Holofernes is my reinterpretation of Gustav Klimt’s Judith I. I reconstructed the composition by assembling hundreds of salvaged, everyday objects, allowing their shapes, colors, and surfaces to contribute directly to the image.

Judith’s painted face guides the eye, while hair, ornaments, trees, and background gradually emerge from the material. Aluminum lids, tuna cans, and many other elements retain their identity and become part of the artwork’s decorative language.

Viewed from a distance, the figure appears cohesive and immediately recognisable. As the viewer approaches, the image fragments, revealing each individual object together with its original function and history.

The contrast between Judith’s seductive power and the ordinary nature of the materials transforms an image belonging to art history into a contemporary composition constructed from things we normally stop looking at.
