DESCRIPTION OF THE WORK
PEELEN...
Peeled Mandarin Sculpture from Recycled Road Signs
Peeled, ready. But never eaten. This recycled metal sculpture captures the mandarin at the exact moment after preparation: the orange peel removed in a spiral reveals the inner flesh, but the fruit remains there, abandoned. The peeling gesture - act of care and intention - becomes useless without final consumption.
The artwork transforms a discarded road sign recovered in Sardinia into an explosion of vibrant orange. The original metal, marked by rust and Mediterranean weathering, is shaped to recreate the organic texture of citrus peel: every imperfection becomes natural grain, every dent transforms into surface irregularity of the fruit.
Hand-painting with eco-friendly paints captures the intense orange of ripe mandarin, while the detached peel areas reveal the chromatic contrast between exterior and interior. The final epoxy resin coating creates a glossy surface that amplifies color vibrancy, transforming the work into a scenic element capable of illuminating any environment.
"Peelen" (from English "peeling") is part of the TuttiFrutti Collection and critiques waste that occurs even before consumption: the time and energy invested in food preparation that is never actually eaten. A particularly relevant message in the social media era, where we often prepare food more to photograph it than to consume it.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions about "Peelen..."
What does "Peelen" mean?
The title refers to the gesture of preparing a fruit for consumption by removing the peel, but then abandoning it without ever eating it.
Why does a peeled mandarin represent waste?
Peeling requires time, intention and care. When the prepared fruit is not consumed, all this investment becomes waste. It's a metaphor for food we prepare but never eat.
Is the orange color really that vibrant in person?
Yes! Orange is one of the most intense colors in the TuttiFrutti Collection. The epoxy resin amplifies chromatic vibrancy, creating an almost luminous effect.
In which environments does this sculpture look best?
"Peelen" is perfect for spaces that love color: modern kitchens, dining rooms, creative offices, food & beverage commercial spaces. Orange brings energy and vitality.
What material is it made of?
The artwork is created from an authentic discarded road sign, recovered in Sardinia. The metal maintains original texture and imperfections under the final coloring.
Can I choose the color of the panel?
This version includes anthracite panel that creates a beautiful contrast with the orange. For other color options, contact us.
Is the artwork suitable for outdoors?
No, it's designed for indoor use. The resin protects colors, but direct exposure to rain and intense sun could damage them over time.
