DESCRIPTION OF THE ARTWORK
Plastic from the Abyss was created from plastics and discarded objects that I collected on the beaches of Sardinia, especially after storms. I imagined these materials not only scattered along the shoreline, but also sinking into the deepest parts of the ocean.
At the center of the artwork is a deep-sea fish, made from the same waste that contaminates its environment. It lights its own luminous lure to attract prey, but the light instead reveals a sea invaded by plastic.
The LED light bulb is an integral part of the artwork. The concentric circles painted on the panel visually amplify its glow, while the original shapes of the recovered objects remain recognizable in the fish’s body and the surrounding space.
The scene reverses the animal’s natural behavior: the predator of the deep becomes a creature trapped in the remains produced by humans.
