DESCRIPTION OF THE WORK
TOMATINHO
Deteriorated Cherry Tomato Sculpture made from a Recycled Street Sign
Tomatinho is a contemporary sculpture from the TuttiFrutti collection, made from an authentic decommissioned street sign recovered in Sardinia. The work depicts a small tomato at the moment when nature begins to slowly reclaim it: the surface becomes covered with mold, the first signs of deterioration appear, and what just moments before seemed perfect suddenly becomes undesirable.
It is a simple yet profoundly symbolic image. In our daily lives, a small imperfection is enough for a food item to be considered unusable and destined for disposal. Tomatinho invites reflection on that thin line between value and waste, showing how the change in perception is often quicker than the actual change in material.
The work arises from the manual transformation of a recovered street sign. The metal is cut, heated, shaped, and reconstructed until it takes on an organic form, deliberately keeping visible oxidations, scratches, and traces of its previous existence. The paint and transparent resin interact with the original surface, without erasing its memory.
The small knife emerging from the stem introduces a narrative tension: the act of cutting has already occurred or is about to occur, while time completes its work. The fruit and the material thus follow the same fate: both bear the marks of transformation, both find new life through art.
Part of the TuttiFrutti collection, Tomatinho explores themes of fragility, food waste, and the ability of art to transform what is rejected into a new object of value.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions about "Tomatinho"
Why is it called "Tomatinho"?
I chose the name Tomatinho because its sweet and light sound contrasts with the decay process represented in the artwork, reminding us how fragile the beauty of the simplest things is.
What material is this sculpture made of?
The artwork is created from an authentic decommissioned road sign, recovered along the roads of Sardinia. The original metal retains the marks of time: rust, dents, and Mediterranean patina.
Can I choose the color of the background panel?
Yes, you can choose between an anthracite panel (elegant and dramatic) or white (minimalist and bright). Alternatively, you can purchase just the fruit without the panel, saving €600.
How is the artwork shipped?
The sculpture is professionally packed in a custom wooden crate with internal protections. Free shipping worldwide, fully insured and tracked.
Is the artwork suitable for outdoor use?
No, this sculpture is designed for indoor use. The epoxy resin coating protects the metal, but direct exposure to the elements could damage the colors over time.
